The DisChords are a bluegrass/gospel band that formed out of the Viroqua Area Bluegrass/Gospel Association membership in 2005. Its purpose was to follow the Association’s commitment to providing listeners with bluegrass and gospel music, with an emphasis on “Mostly Gospel” music. This philosophy fit the band well in that the members of The DisChords saw the band as a way to share “Gods message in song.” The DisChords are the home band for the Viroqua Area Bluegrass/Gospel Association’s Annual Festival held on the second full week-end in July.
The band members include: Sandy Malliet on Fiddle and vocals; Gary Herr on Banjo and vocals; Eldon Gardner on Mandolin and vocals; Tom Baker on Dog House Base and vocals, and Wayne Sherry on Guitar and vocals. All members of the band are from the Viroqua area in Wisconsin, located in the Ocooch Mountain range flowing South from Wildcat Mountain. “We have lots of fun with our music variety’ said Sherry, ‘doing songs like What a Friend We have in Jesus, and The Far Side Banks of Jordan, to traditional bluegrass songs like Wabash Cannonball and Rocky Top.” “We are all good friends and those relationships come out in our sound” said Baker, the Base player for the group.
The DisChords have three CDs out and invite all music lovers to come and listen, maybe sing along, and share in the fun. Call Wayne Sherry for bookings at (608) 606-4105
